curriculum
When we started twenty years ago, curriculum was not a common component of childcare. In fact, it was not unusual for parents to actually remove their children from their childcare center for nursery school and return afterwards! Our commitment to providing state-of-the-art educational and developmental programs began the day we opened. Over the years we've continuously expanded and improved our programs ... always keeping them consistent with current research and knowledge regarding the best ways for children of all ages to learn and develop.
What is curriculum?
Most people probably think of curriculum as the elements of a program that "teach" ... for example ... the themes that might be used to teach preschoolers their abc's or about dinosaurs. We believe that this is, in fact, only one of the three elements that comprise a total curriculum. The other two are:
- The physical structure and composition of the environment (particularly the classrooms)
- Activities and facilities designed to develop physical abilities - both gross and fine motor skills
All of these interact to provide the totality of what we think of as curriculum.
Indeed, we do have a "traditional" curriculum that we are very proud of. We have developed and shaped it over the years, utilizing the input of the most current research in early childhood education, our own education and many years of experience, as well as the knowledge that we've developed in utilizing it with our many and diverse groups. Samples of our daily, weekly and monthly curriculum for all of our children can be accessed in the individual discussions of our programs for children and from the list below:
