programs - two year old (flamingoes)
We call our two year olds ... Flamingoes. The truth is we don't actually remember why. But one thing we are sure of, we've never had a parrot (one year old) who wasn't excited about becoming a flamingo!
At Educational Playcare, the "terrible twos" are anything but. In fact, two year olds are the most popular group to teach! The emergence of verbal language and communication, the transition from the infants/toddler stage of recognizing their bodies and surroundings to actually engaging and interacting with others, the evolution of their cognitive processes from specific to symbolic thinking . there simply isn't a more exciting time!
Our objective is to provide a framework where two year olds can experience these things. Our teachers understand the transition they are going through and gently guide them, occasionally providing limits, but without limiting their emerging feeling of independence. Our classrooms are designed to present two year olds with varied sensory and learning opportunities, but in a safe, controllable manner.
Our Flamingo curriculum is a modified version of our preschool curriculum, recognizing the enormous capabilities that two year olds have for language development and the beginnings of mathematical and scientific concepts. Each week is dedicated to a unique theme, with emphasis on the development of art and fine motor skills, music and movement (including weekly dance and movement classes, varied sensory experiences and new and exciting concepts. View our weekly themes (pdf). For each weekly theme, a detailed curriculum provides our teachers with multiple options that they can tailor to the unique developmental levels and characteristics of their classes. View two abbreviated examples of these curriculums: Curriculum Sample 1 (pdf), Curriculum Sample 2 (pdf) .
Of course, curriculum is only one component of our overall program. There's plenty of time and resources for pure play, socializing and gross motor skill development. While specific schedules might vary from class to class, all components are included. A typical schedule (pdf) can be viewed here.
Finally, the importance of communication with our families is always understood. Summaries of a child's day are provided daily in a "Flamingogram" (pdf). |
