Play dates are a great way for children to spend time with their friends or have the opportunity to socialize and make new friends. During the fall months, there are endless activities to choose from! And did we mention how much fun they can be for adults, too? Play dates with other families are a great opportunity to get out of the house or host a get together and enjoy some time with other adults.
There are so many great ideas for play date activities – whether you want to stay at home or venture out.
Explore Outside: What better way to spend a crisp fall day than outside enjoying nature? Let your children play in a pile of leaves, take a nature walk outside and talk about the leaves changing colors and acorns you find. Collect items from your walk or from the backyard and fill up a bin to create a sensory activity for younger children.
The Park: A beautiful, crisp fall day should definitely be spent outdoors! Head to a local park and let the children explore. The park is a fantastic way for your children to socialize with other children and burn off some of that energy! While the children are playing with each other, it also offers the adults some quality time together. Keep in mind that just because it is cooler out, doesn’t mean that the sun isn’t as strong. It is recommended to stay out of the sun during the times the sun is the strongest, so head out early morning to protect yourself and your children from harmful UV rays.
Go Apple/Pumpkin Picking: When fall arrives, everything becomes about apples and pumpkins! Visit a local farm and enjoy apple or pumpkin picking. Many farms will also have fun activities set up for children such as face painting or hay rides. After you go, create delicious treats with the apples you picked or enjoy decorating and carving the pumpkins!
Visit a Museum: Explore your town or a city close by and visit a museum that you’ve never been to. Use the time to encourage your child’s passion by visiting a place that highlights something they like or use the time to experience new opportunities for them to explore possible new passions.
Arts and Crafts: The list for arts and crafts projects that are perfect for fall time is endless! Get the neighborhood children together and let them create their own masterpieces! Create fun pictures on the sidewalk or driveway with fall colored chalk, paint with pumpkins, leaves or pinecones, or stamp with cut up apples. Whatever you decided to do, allow your children to use their imagination and create!
